Our 2012 event has been scheduled!

Mark Saturday June 9, 2012, on your calendars because you won’t want to miss it. You will need to hang on to your seats, because Bryan the Rocket Scientist is back! YAA-Eau Claire is extremely fortunate, through the generosity of the NASA Research Center in Cleveland, to announce that Bryan Palaszawski will be with us for June's event; Bryan directs research for high performance propellants and atmospheric entry.

Bryan is leading the research effort for the human mission to Mars, working on the entry, descent, and landing where rocket deceleration is planned for the final descent to the planet’s surface. Please find out more about Bryan by clicking the page link at the left.

Last Year's program was another year of strong attendance, with a nice turnout from both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, as well as the general public. We had a lot of great help once again. There were 32 instructor/pilots and administrative folks coming from as far away as Ashland, WI, & Hutchinson, MN. Also, lending plenty of time at the event and during the summer leading up to the program were several University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students.

We were also fortunate to host our guest speaker for the event, Bryan Palaszewski. Bryan not only gave a great review of the space program, but also did some powerful demonstrations at a learning station for some hands-on fun.

We have posted pictures from our past events, and some great news videos including some of 19-year-old Jessica Miller. Jessica has been an instructor at the last two events and a favorite of the attendees.

The Youth Aviation Adventure Program

Participants in this event will visit 11 different learning stations about various aspects of flight. Learning stations include Helicopters, Airport Operations, The Aircraft Power plant, Aerodynamics, Pre Flight Check of an Aircraft, The Instrument Panel, Aviation Careers, Fire Safety (Airport Fire Truck), In-The-Know aviation quiz game, and a hands-on station about rocket science guided by our featured guest, Bryan P.  You will also build an FPG-9 glider.

Each youth who completes our YAA event will receive a YAA patch and a snack during the snack break period.

Over 50 volunteers will be on hand for this program, contributing their time, effort, and enthusiasm for flying. Their purpose in coming together for this special Saturday is to share their knowledge and experience of flight with kids ages 12-18.

Last, but certainly not least, participants will hear from a terrific speaker about Rocket Science and a human mission to Mars.
